Our Story

Began By Finding Problems, Growth From Creating Solutions

Reclaiming Intimacy was born in 2014 from a few simple conversations between people who were experiencing cancer and illness, that was ultimately affecting their sexual health, in varying ways. At the time, our educational services were held at a small classroom, where our Director of Educational Services, Jen, met privately with people and couples regarding their sexual health and dysfunction issues. It was here we learned just how many people were silently suffering through sexual dysfunction resulting from cancer & cancer treatment, medical issues, and life’s stressors. It was then we began to wonder how this critical part of personal medical care and after care living was not being addressed.

This is where our research process started in 2014, as we discovered a community wide breakdown in communication, personal medical care, and partner support. We listened to our local community advocacy partners, took steps to further educate our staff, and sat down with Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana to begin our planning and holding courses at their facility. We saw every challenge as an opportunity to connect and empower people. Our goal is to eliminate the shame, silence, isolation, judgment, and confusion so many people experience by creating a place to find answers, strategies, and solutions.

By empowering people and their partners, this improves their journey through cancer and illness with proper resources and beneficial solutions. Reclaiming Intimacy is at the forefront of a movement to break the social taboo and provide every resource about sexual health, sexual wellness, and sexual dysfunction- regardless of the cause, cancer, or medical issue.

We will lead the charge to normalize these conversations within the medical community, provide sexual aids & resources, and treat sexual health and wellness like any other aspect of survivorship & whole-personal medical care. We hope to help people regain their sexual health, which is a valid and life-affirming aspect of regaining overall quality of life. Restoring the sexual self, healing both mind and body, along with framing change as something to be embraced, gives hope and connects partners- pulling people from their isolation.

It is our greatest hope that people find our efforts to be useful in changing the way we approach intimacy through life, and in the face of cancer, illness, or other circumstance. We feel a responsibility to educate, communicate, provide therapeutic products, and be a resource to provide the best life possible. Reclaiming Intimacy is made up of a hardworking, educated team dedicated to making a positive impact on the medical community. We are here to serve people, partners, advocates, and medical professionals to improve overall care.
